Vaccination Program for Homebound individuals

Effective today, the Wayne County Public Health Division will follow the recommendation by both CDC and MDHHS reducing the quarantine period after an individual has been identified as a close contact and thus exposed to COVID-19.

While the standard 14-day quarantine period remains, it can be reduced from fourteen (14) days to ten (10) days if the following conditions exist for the individual who has been identified as a close contact:

  1. The close contact has been vaccinated with a COVID vaccine that requires two doses of vaccine to be fully vaccinated (e.g. Pfizer, Moderna),·or one dose of a COVID vaccine that only requires one dose (e.g. Johnson & Johnson), and it has been less than (14) days since the last dose of the vaccine was administered; OR
  2. The individual does not develop symptoms or show clinical evidence of COVID-19 infection during daily symptom monitoring for the 10 days after date of last exposure; AND
  3. The individual continues to monitor themselves for sympto·ms through day fourteen (14) after date of last exposure.

No quarantine period is required when an individual is identified as a close contact and one of the following situations applies:

  1. Within the past 5 months the close contact had a positive, confirmatory COVID (PCR) test; OR
  2. The close contact has been vaccinated with a COVID vaccine that requires two doses of vaccine to be fully vaccinated or one dose of a COVID vaccine that only requires one dose and fourteen (14) days have passed since the last dose of the vaccine has been administered.

The 14-day self-quarantine period will contrnue as the standard in congregate care settings for those individuals who are identified as close contacts who do not meet the criteria above (prior infection in past 5 months or 14 days post complete vaccine) exposed to COVID-19.

As a reminder, a “test out of quarantine” strategy has never been adopted in the State of Michigan and is not adopted by the Wayne County Public Health Division.
